ScratchThat
What is ScratchThat?
ScratchThat is a student run and operated predominantly online magazine that creates a platform for emerging visual artists and creative writers to be published and promoted. The project began last year in 2020 and is going stronger than ever in 2021 throughout Covid19 lockdowns. You can view the ScratchThat website here, and find 2021's work in issues 4 through to 7 of the magazine.
My Role?
At ScratchThat, I've had the opportunity to work alongside other multi-disciplinary creatives ranging from creative writers, editors and other artist. I found myself taking on opportunities where I saw them, this landed unofficially stepped into the role of the production team leader, where I took charge of the group where we collaboratively solve all things related to visuals content, aesthetic, brand identity and art direction. I very naturally established my own unique role and place in the the team where I was able to practice working communicatively with other teams and began taking initiative where there was room for improvement and opportunity. For Issues 4 & 5, we re-vamped the website and developed a new aesthetic guide to create a consistent and cohesive visual identity. I have been in charge of producing most of the promotional content for social media. I also was in charge of those nitty gritty graphic things like touching up logos, creating new labels, email banners, keeping everything consistent. By applying my current skill set, leadership capabilities and working collaboratively with other creatives I was able to help the magazine be more visually engaging. Issue 4 through to 7 brought the excitement of selling prints and displaying artwork to increase audience engagement and boost emphasis on the visual art aspect of the mag. This project was great opportunity to bring my core skills and creative experience to the table and develop further compound on these skills through collaboration, problem solving, critical thinking, organisation, project management, professional communication and time management al in a professional context.
